Today is my birthday and I thought I was going to take the day off. Nancy Pelosi had other plans.

You see, Thursday night she rammed HR 5175, the DISCLOSE Act, through the House by the now familiar 219 – 206 vote. This is a blatantly unconstitutional act that targets the Tea Party movement. As if that’s not bad enough, she reportedly used a provision called “Martial Law” to call for the vote without debate.

Are we at war and I didn’t know it?

Apparently we are, and I therefore feel compelled to again honor my oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

This is not just a shot across the bow of the Tea Party movement–it is aimed directly at us.I read on Tea party sites and lists all the doom and gloom about this act, and it is bad. I need not repeat the details here. The argument I’m hearing is: yes, it is clearly unconstitutional but it won’t be declared so until after the election. Therefore we’re screwed.

Say what?

When we speak out anyway, our cases won’t get to court before the act is declared unconstitutional. If they can play the legal “chicken” game with our free speech, so can we.

Are you going to let this unconstitutional act, assuming the Senate passes it, stop you from speaking out?
Are you going to tell the IRS what your health insurance plan is when you file your 2010 taxes?
Are you going to pay Colorado’s unconstitutional internet sales tax?

Are they going to throw us all in jail? Dear God, let me be the first one on my block! I hear the food in the El Paso County jail is pretty good and I know the sheriff.

The time for civil disobedience is coming.

Al,
You put it very clearly, “Therefore we’re screwed”. Many of us have had past conversations on what we are prepared to do if things go bad. They took place at a time when most things were still speculation and the answers where easy. It’s time to start asking those questions again as yesterdays conspiracy theory is today’s reality. It’s time to look inward and ask ourselves what we really believe in and what those beliefs are worth. You must have these conversations with your families and those you care about as they too are impacted by any actions you may take.

We all will sacrifice either through new government enforced regulations or self imposed sacrifice as we deal with a government that no longer respects or represents the individual.

Up to now, it’s been all talk through calling, faxing and meeting with others on who to call and what to fax. We are now rapidly approaching the time when we must pick a side. What? Most are saying they already have, but that was before conspiracy turned to reality. Standing up won’t be as easy as it sounds as there are real prices to pay for standing against those in power.

We will lose some that have so far been with us as they consider the real implications of the actions they may have to take and that’s OK. Each must do what is right for them and their families. Those that remain face an uncertain future, but a future that comprises real American values can only be secured by those prepared to make the hard choices.

America is at a cross roads. This is no longer politics. Have the conversations and pick a side.

A lifetime ago, I was fortunate to be able to fly a great fighter in the USMC
Today I could not climb into one because of a bad hip. BUT I will stand (with cane) in any group that will gather to fight this disaster in Washington.
We all need to stand up to the goons- who will follow the direction of the loons in Washington.
This group will not listen to the voters-they will continue to pass law that will not be legal but they don’t care-they will use it to keep power.
After November do not get discouraged, yes O’Spill will veto any attempt to cut back the outrageous things they have put into law.. but 2012 is coming…
We must pull together.. we will win!

The invocation of the “Martial Law” provision I referenced in the post applies only to the House itself during the debate so that the suspension of rules it calls for will continue for the length of the debate. What was so urgent that debate and public review needed to be suspended? Nothing of course.

Robert Rowland of the Elbert County Tea Party talked to Rep Mike Coffman’s office yesterday and I actually spoke to Rep Doug Lamborn today at the El Paso County Tea Party in Memorial Park. Both sources confirmed the above understanding.

One man asked Lamborn whether Congress did any business during regular hours any more: he just grinned; we all know the answer.

I for one don’t plan to see the inside of a police car, much less the inside of a courtroom.

True, Al. First things first. A small fire doesn’t necessarily need the application of a firehose.

But I think it’s also important to telegraph ahead to the powers that be the measure of our resolve. That’s certainly what the Founding Fathers did to the British.
