OK, Patriots: recess is over. Back to work. And we do have our work cut out for us!
First, we need to make sense of the election. Obama surely has it wrong: it was not the messaging, it was the message. He could have a point if the Democrats had actually run on their platform; they didn’t. Most were even afraid to tell voters who they were–that they were even members of the new Circle-D party. They knew what was coming. The bad news for us is that they went ahead with their agenda anyway.
What they have done to their party since about 1992 is to remake themselves into a European-style Socialist Democratic party along the lines of the Labour Party in the UK or any number of social democrat parties on the continent. As such, they want a cradle-to-grave welfare state where the government runs at least half the economy. In addition to having a social democrat party platform, there are at least two other implications to this orientation. One is that they tend to act like a parliamentary party: when elected, they assume they have a mandate to enact their platform. They didn’t because they forgot that we’re not a parliamentary democracy–yet. The second implication is that they are actively trying to transform our system of government into a kind of parliamentary democracy by negating the checks and balances of our constitutional form of republican democracy. They’re both enacting policies and transforming the underlying rules of the game at the same time.
So secondly, we have to understand the battle we’re fighting. It’s a three-pronged attack on our constitutional republic and our very way of life. The first prong is the policy agenda which we have seen and have rejected. The second is the attempt to transform our very form of government from within; to make our Constitution not a living document, but a dead letter. Third is the attempt to institutionalize all this by making themselves a perpetual majority party.
It’s like going to a football game. The opposing side has the referees in their pocket so the calls go against the home team; they can’t win. Then the referees start changing the rules of the game. Before you know it, we’ve still got eleven men on the field but we’re playing soccer. You see, they told us we were going to a football game but what they didn’t tell us is that they had a different definition of the word football.
I think Americans reacted viscerally to the socialist agenda in early 2009, triggered by the out of control spending. We’re still waking up to the dangerous hidden agenda of how they’re transforming government and society.
Stopping the advance of the agenda was only the first step. We still have a lot of work to do in order to restore the Constitution to its rightful place as the centerpiece of our governmental system. We are going to need energy and determination for the long war.
Pass the fries and the salt, please.
